Interior design is big business and when you work with clients they expect the best. This is why mastering digital tools and software like AutoCAD is essential for an interior designer if you want to make a name for yourself in this industry.
In this blog we’ll show you how Computer Aided Design (CAD) solutions – AutoCAD can transform your project. You’ll also learn why you should take an AutoCAD training course in Kolkata before you start your first job in the field, and how you can start your own project right away by learning some basic AutoCAD steps.
Before you move on to actually using AutoCAD, it’s helpful to understand what the software does and why it’s so popular in the interior design industry.
AutoCAD is a drawing and sketching tool developed and sold by Autodesk that is used by everyone who works with buildings – such as architects, engineers, contractors, and interior designers.
This software allows you to layout any physical space in a 2D or 3D model much faster than if you were to draw it by hand.
What do interior designers use AutoCAD for? Most designers use AutoCAD to create floor plans and floor plan layouts for commercial and residential buildings. Most start with a 2D layout while working with a client to design the overall layout of major furniture or fixtures.
One of the best features of software like AutoCAD 2010 for interior designers and planners is the ability to convert a 2D floor plan to 3D using the RoomMaker feature, which makes it easier to show clients what their final space will look like.
What programs do interior designers use?
AutoCAD isn’t the only tool interior designers use for their planning, but it’s certainly an industry standard. Wondering how much you can make in AutoCAD for interior designers? It depends on the depth of your skills, but knowing how to create eye-catching room designs in this program will definitely help you stand out from future and current clients.
There is several other tool design companies now in use that you may want to study as well. SketchUp Pro and Autodesk Revit are great software programs that you can use to create 2D and 3D models just like in AutoCAD. SketchUp also has the added bonus of virtual reality integration to give its customers a “real” view of their future space.
However, if you are serious about getting into the industry, AutoCAD is the place to start. If you’re looking for the best way to learn AutoCAD for Interior Designers, you’ve come to the right place. There are endless possibilities in using AutoCAD for interior designers and it can seem a bit impossible when you have a blank project screen in front of you.
For now, let’s make our own and show you how to make a dining table and chairs in the appliance.
1. Start with the basic dimensions
Use your client’s measurements or samples found online and write down the width and depth of the table you will be drawing. Using the line tool in AutoCAD, draw the correct dimensions in the project area. Do the same for your chair.
2. Place your chair around the table
Again, use the line tool to divide your table into sections evenly depending on the number of chairs you will be placing in the design.
Swipe through your chair to highlight the block and enter “M” to open the “Move” bar. You can then place them anywhere around the table block. Repeat this process until all of your chairs are on one side of the table, where you can step into the mirror. This repeats the chair where you can then slide it to the opposite side of the table.
3. Add a vertical page image
Creating a profile or side view of your table and chairs is also an important part of design as you work on your AutoCAD interior design course.
Using your line tool, repeat the first few steps of your bird’s eye view drawing. Use the same size from top to bottom as you did for your table, but this time draw from the side.
Add offsets to the top and sides to accommodate the table and legs. When you are happy with your drawing, you should use the crop tool to remove any additional lines that you no longer need in the plan.
4. Add an example of chair height
Find the image then want to model your chair and paste it into AutoCAD using the File > Attach toolbar.
Enlarge the image to fit the chair size you want, and then use the line tool to trace it onto the chair image to create blocks. This will give you a 2D model of the stool sample from your reference photo that you can use in your plans.
Using the block tool, draw a line from the top view to your height so you can place the chairs in the same position around the table.
5. Add colour to your design
Highlight the object you want to add colour to and select the Hatch option in the left toolbar. From here you can choose a colour in the new toolbar that opens above your object. Click on the table or chair to add colour before finalizing your design.
This is a very simple tutorial for AutoCAD, and there is much more you can do – interior designers use it to plan the overall aesthetic of the house.
