Configuration tables allow the creation and modification of configurations in a clear and simple interface. Learn how to add, manage, and control functionality between configurations and configuration tables in SOLIDWORKS, and discover what new and improved useful functionality in SOLIDWORKS 2022 is!
SOLIDWORKS uses various types of tables to speed up the modeling process. In a detailing and assembly environment, we have tables for controlling templates, modeling sheet metal parts, demonstrating tolerances, specifications and creating various configurations with design tables and configuration tables.
The design spreadsheet is a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet and can be used to create multiple configurations with a few clicks.
Configuration table is basically an advanced configuration manager. They show features and sketches configured in parts or assemblies, and help map individual settings for each configuration into convenient tables.
Configurations allow us to subtly change section properties and dimensions without having to create new files, and our configuration tables allow us to easily manage them.
Within the configuration table, features can be pressed and pressed, and dimensions can be modified in both sketches and features. Also, configurations and function names can be changed to aid the design process.
To create a configuration table, simply right-click the feature, dimension, partner, or component you want to configure and click Configure Feature, Configure Dimension, or Configure Component. It shows the interface above.
Values can be changed, features can be suppressed by ticking boxes and special properties like description can be added for each configuration while viewing all the configurations present in the model.
Use the Hide/Show Custom Properties button to view and control all custom properties assigned to different configurations.
To configure additional features and dimensions, double-click the feature or dimension when the configuration table opens to add it to the table.
Additional configurations can be created by typing a new name above < Create new configuration. >
Always name and save the configuration table to populate the tables folder in Configuration Manager. Multiple configuration tables can be created to manage features and sketches and organize your designs.
Configuration tables provide an additional level of control over manually creating configurations.
The ability to see all the differences between configurations in a single interface significantly speeds up the configuration creation and editing process and reduces the potential for errors.
The traditional way of creating a new configuration, by right-clicking the configuration and selecting Add Configuration, only allows one change to be made at a time.
Configuration spreadsheets can also be more intuitive and user-friendly than the associated design spreadsheet, serving as a springboard for overcoming the difficult ways of designing Excel-based spreadsheets.
Configuration tables have useful improvements in SOLIDWORKS 2022.
Under System Options > General, enable the “Create configuration table on open” setting. It automatically creates configuration tables in parts and assemblies when new configurations are added.
Check your spreadsheet folder in Configuration Manager to find it.
In earlier versions, tables had to be manually saved when they were created in order to be displayed and accessed in the tables folder.
